Advocacy
Stories that move people to act
We bring together evidence, storytelling and the creative arts to push for social change: from every child's right to learn, to preventing deaths that should never happen.
Our approach
Creatives as advocates
Facts persuade some people. Stories reach many more. We work with writers, poets, artists and filmmakers to turn evidence into work people remember and share, and we use it to reach communities, the media and decision-makers.
In 2024 and 2025, 108 creatives took part in two of our international advocacy campaigns.
Campaigns
What we campaign on
Our annual reports describe each campaign in full.
International Awareness Day for Avoidable Deaths
We work with the Avoidable Deaths Network on IAD4AD, a global campaign to prevent deaths from causes such as disasters, drowning, heatstroke and snakebite. In 2026, with funding from the Institute for Environmental Futures at the University of Leicester, we launched the campaign's first monitoring, evaluation and learning framework.
Art for Life
Creatives across Sub-Saharan Africa responded to avoidable deaths through poetry, flash fiction and visual art. The work became the anthology Held Too Briefly, published with the Avoidable Deaths Network and SEVHAGE.
Storytelling for public health
We develop short stories and films with Nigerian storytellers to help communities understand, and act on, the risks behind avoidable deaths.
Every child's right to learn
Evidence-based campaigns on TV, radio and social media for access to quality education, encouraging communities and decision-makers to invest in it.
Poets for Avoidable Deaths
Poems that call for change
Poets responded to drowning, silicosis, snakebite and maternal mortality, deaths that can be prevented.
Work with us on a campaign
We partner with networks, universities and organisations who want their message to reach people through stories and the arts.
